Focus the budget on ChatGPT
When an overseas buyer asks for five manufacturers to consider, you want your business on that shortlist. Export GEO starts with the buyer's purchasing conditions, the suppliers already recommended and the evidence that could make your company worth considering.
We prioritise ChatGPT for research and repeat observation in this export use case. Similarweb's worldwide website ranking placed chatgpt.com first in the AI Chatbots and Tools category for September 2026. This measures website visits; it does not measure export procurement, app users or enquiry share.
The target assistant and the publishing channels work together. ChatGPT is the priority destination for supplier discovery. YouTube, Reddit and other sources can supply information used in product and supplier comparisons. Choose the channels relevant to the same buyer questions so the business can concentrate its resources.
Start with one product family, one target market and a set of purchasing questions. Understand the specific competitors before allocating content spend.
Check the sources before allocating media spend
A list of media placements does not establish how much they help answer a procurement question. Inspect the pages, videos and discussions cited in the target answers, identify the evidence the business lacks, and then decide where to improve it. Prioritise PR, video and community work by relevance, evidence value and observed sources.
In Ahrefs' study of domains cited by ChatGPT, Reddit ranked first in September 2026 with a 16.8% mention share; YouTube had 2.5% and Facebook 1.4%. These are sources worth investigating in the customer's particular sector.
Source: Ahrefs Brand Radar, September 2026, US queries across all topics. The denominator is the combined citations of the 50 leading sources. These are three selected social/community domains, not the top three domains or shares of all ChatGPT citations. The source article updates monthly, so later figures may change.
The study establishes that social and community platforms are important sources. It does not establish that they dominate every export sector or that publishing a video causes a recommendation. Ahrefs' AI search strategy also recommends accurate owned information, outside evidence and competitive opportunities identified through actual cited pages.
A company's own videos can demonstrate products, processes and inspection. Customer cases, independent reviews and industry discussions can add further verification. Give each item a purchasing question to answer. Repeating identical promotional copy across platforms mainly increases the number of publications.
Find a specific position to compete for
“Best supplier” hides many conditions: material, quantity, certification, delivery country, customisation and risk. Analyse those conditions, identify advantages supported by the company's facts, and reason from the Prompt to a keyword and content goal.
Original method illustration. Questions and actions are reasoning examples, not factory capability claims, live rankings or completed research.

| Competitive question | Evidence to keep | Action to take |
|---|---|---|
| Which real suppliers make the shortlist? | Buyer question, market, answer date, competitor names and domains | Establish the suppliers and conditions to compare |
| Why are those suppliers recommended? | The answer's reasons, citations and relevant source passages | Identify the evidence supporting each advantage |
| Under which conditions could we be a better fit? | Confirmed product facts, order terms, cases and test material | Choose supported use cases and keyword opportunities |
| What is missing from our existing content? | Current pages, content library and relevant videos or discussions | Decide what to update and what to create |
Low-volume customisation, a particular material or delivery to a specific market can provide an entry point. Choose these only where the business and research support them. Reason from needs, competitors and product facts together. Give each content page one primary search intent.
Turn competitive gaps into five deliverables
Research needs to become files the team can review, keep and use. Each format answers a different part of the purchasing decision.
FAQ: resolve specific purchasing questions
Use direct questions and answers for order quantities, samples, required information, suitability and next steps. Use confirmed facts and deliver HTML and Markdown for product or service pages.
Webpage issues and to-dos PDF: show what to change
Give the owner the location, relevant passage, recommended action, priority and completion check. Target the product, capability, case study or enquiry page that actually needs improvement.
Competitor comparison: compare real options consistently
Use real competitor domains found in research and checkable sources. Compare applications, conditions, strengths and limitations, explaining which buyer each option suits. Deliver HTML and Markdown.
Illustrated article: cover one new competitive opportunity
Explain one purchasing decision that the existing content does not adequately cover. Use the selected keyword goal, illustrations, facts and sources; check the content library for overlap. Deliver HTML and Markdown.
Video and community content: answer questions beyond the website
A video package contains first-person spoken lines, a shot sequence, visual direction and publishing copy. A community draft answers a particular question, discloses relevant affiliation and uses links according to the community's rules. Adapt the expression to the channel while sharing confirmed facts.
Inspect actual downloadable examples to assess formats and file quality. They demonstrate deliverables; they do not establish that a customer published them, earned citations or overtook a competitor.
Take video scripts into social video production
A script should address a purchasing question found in the competitive research. If buyers question inspection, show the inspection process. If they compare suitability, explain the selection criteria. Brand, product, process and application terms should arise naturally in the explanation, with consistent spoken lines, captions and descriptions.
Original script-structure illustration. Actual lines, footage and performance claims need customer-supplied, confirmed evidence.
The standard content delivery includes video scripts. If you have a specific competitive goal and want help turning a script into a video, enquire about social video production. Agree on audience, materials, language, quantity, revisions and publishing arrangements for the project before production begins.
Company demonstrations and independent reviews serve different purposes. Produced videos must preserve the real identity of the speaker or business. Demonstrate supported product and delivery capabilities, and keep building useful answers to buyer questions.
Test progress against the same purchasing questions
Record the country, language, product family, competitors and question set at the start. Repeat the ChatGPT research under the same settings and separately observe shortlist inclusion, accuracy of recommendation reasons, cited pages and relevant enquiries. Record position separately when an answer explicitly orders the suppliers.
Answers vary, and publication alone is not a recommendation. Ahrefs recommends measuring average visibility over time across relevant questions. This export use case prioritises ChatGPT, retains each observation and compares against specific competitors. Assess delivered files and market outcomes separately.
Bring your website, target market, priority product and the competitors you care about. Answer the essential questions, establish the competitive goal and collect saved results in your account. Use professional mode when you want to manage research, keyword goals and plans more closely. See how to measure GEO results for the difference between mentions, citations and enquiries.
